Based on any photo, we carve an everlasting one-of-a-kind piece. The carved piece is assembled into a photo frame of your choice and is illuminated to create a unique lighting solution.
The carved piece magically comes alive when illuminated from behind. The varying thicknesses of the translucent material create the illusion of the original image.
Replacing the traditional way of displaying photos in photo frames, our Custom Photo Lights combine a unique way of displaying and preserving photographs as well as creating a personalized unusual lighting solution which makes a wonderful and unique gift idea for any occasion.
Just find your favorite kids or family photo. If you can't find that perfect one, just pick up your camera and go for it. The possibilities are endless!
How Are Custom Photo Lights Made?
The process is based on an old art form called lithophanes. First invented in France in the late 1800’s, Lithophane (Greek for "vision in stone") is a porcelain engraving that comes alive when illuminated from behind. Today, these pieces are created using modern, long lasting materials so they won't change or crack over time. Even if you leave it on all the time! Each piece is then framed in a high quality wooden frame to make a beautiful display.
The Custom Photo Light is a complete lamp based on your selected photo. It includes the main carved piece, a frame, a back stand, an energy efficient lightbulb and a plug-in electric cord with a on/off switch. Each piece comes with its own authenticity card and serial number.
What Photo Should I Use?
- Although a Custom Photo Light can be created from any photograph you send, we aren't permitted, by law, to use Copy Right photos. Please make sure you aren't sending us one or are sending it in with a signed permission of the Copy Right owner.
- The photo you choose can be Black & White or Color.
- If you do not have a digital copy of the photo you can mail the original and it will be returned to you undamaged. All we do is scan it. Mail photos (along with a copy of your receipt) to Lisa Mann at 6285 E. Spring St. #260, Long Beach, CA 90808
- If you choose to scan the photo or send a digital image please email it to us at photos@pipsqueakboutique.com . Once you order you will receive an email with instructions. Please scan at 300dpi. Save as bmp, gif, jpg, pcx, png or tif formats.
- The quality of the Photo Light piece is directly related to the quality of the photograph you send. The sharper the original image is, the better the carved piece is going to turn out.
- If the proportions of the photo do not match the proportions of your frame, we will need to scale or trim the picture. Feel free to make remarks on how you prefer the trimming to be done.
For example, you give us a square picture to fit into a 5x7. We will need to trim the sides.
